I’m taking my normal in-person speaking engagements online and you can come. I’ll be presenting one 90-minute class per month and repeating this entire series every 4 months. You’ll even get a sneak peek of examples from my forthcoming book (don’t tell Sage). Here is the lineup:
Reporting to be Remembered
December 14, 11am-12:30pm ET
Designing research and evaluation dissemination is about more than making things look pretty. Ultimately, we report and present to teach our audience, to get our content firmly planted in their knowledge base, to help them act.
We will begin by talking about the cognitive science behind good data communication. Then we’ll launch into the best practices in terms of font, graphics, color, and arrangement, as they relate to our research and evaluation reports. Full of guidelines and examples, after this webinar you’ll be better able to package your work so it represents your quality, so it gets remembered.
Nontoxic Slideshows
January 18, 11am-12:30pm ET
“Death by Powerpoint” won’t literally kill your audience. But it will cause them to check their messages, flip ahead in the handout, and fall asleep. By contrast, compelling slideshows effectively communicate through the proper use of graphics, color, placement, and font.
You will learn the evidence-based principles behind good presentations that make your research and evaluation data legible, comprehended, and retained. You will leave with direct, pointed changes that can be administered using existing technology to enhance slideshows such that they meet contemporary audience expectations.
Smart Data Visualization
February 15, 11am-12:30pm ET
Crystal clear charts and graphs are valuable – they save an audience’s mental energies, keep a reader engaged, and make you look smart. You can achieve that level of smart communication using the tools you already own.
You will learn the research-based best practices that inform smart data visualization. We will focus on the fundamentals of good graph design – simplification and emphasis – including how to work from the default settings in Microsoft Excel to design visualizations with an impact.  As a result, you will be able to use the graphing software you have in smarter ways.
Smart Data, Small Group
March 22, 11am-12:30pm ET
You already know just what to say. And you already know who to send it to. You just need a bit of feedback from like-minded peers. Maybe you’ve hit a wall in your search for the perfect set of images to encapsulate your main ideas and need some pointed advice. Maybe you need input on the best graph that would carry the message of your executive summary. Maybe you just have a very specific question about the report or slideshow or graph on your desk right now. This webinar is for you.
I will cap the audience at 9 (so first come, first serve). Each attendee will share his or her own documents via the screensharing function of the webinar platform, ask the group for help, and receive direct advice and coaching. Those interested in attending (1) must have attended a previous webinar or workshop from Evergreen Evaluation and (2) should email Stephanie to sign up.

The webinar platform I’m trialing is MeetingBurner. You can participate by phone, Skype, or your computer speakers and mic.
