A Year of Free Workshops

What now? Excuse me??

Yes. 2026 is my year of free data visualization workshops.

This is kind of a big deal and super exciting and sure to generate a lot of questions so let’s pop directly into the Q & A. πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

What’s the workshop?

It’s the one that has people saying:

“I have to say that this was hands down the best workshop I have been to in my professional career and it was worth every single penny. You are not only a content matter expert, but you are also a fantastic presenter. That combination is so rare. You are truly gifted 😊”

It’s my flagship data visualization workshop, where I’ll teach you my tried-and-true Four Step Data Visualization Process. You’ll know how to tell a story with data and you’ll learn how to make high quality charts through Google Sheets, Excel, Tableau, or Power BI (you’ll pick one software).

This is a highly interactive, hands-on workshop. Every participant will need a laptop and access to the core software you choose.

Typical workshop participants come from a wide variety of industries and have varying skill sets. Newbies welcome.

This workshop will change the entire way your team thinks about communicating data.

The workshop is for organizations that want to bring me in to train their team so everyone can make more data-informed decisions. I can accommodate up to 25 people per workshop.

The flyer mentions customization. Will you tailor these free workshops to us?

I’ll tailor the content lightly, based on what you tell me your team needs to hear (after you’re selected) and a light review of some of your work. You’re smart and adaptable so even if I’m showing you examples from a different industry, you’ll be able to apply the lessons to your own data and graphs.

Who can apply?

I’ve structured the workshop for organizations – this is not a public workshop where individuals can register on their own. Though if you were an individual who wanted to organize a group to apply for a free workshop, have at it.

To be clear: This is NOT an individual registration workshop. I’m not hosting. Organizations must apply to bring me in for their team(s). Individual professionals cannot purchase a single seat.

I’ll focus on organizations that are mission-aligned with me. πŸ’ž Your heart has to be in the right place.

This opportunity is only open to new clients.

How will you pick who gets a free workshop?

You’ll apply (please read through the whole Q & A before applying) and I’ll review your application primarily for mission alignment, location (be appealing!), and schedule. You’ll be able to note your date preferences, if you have them, in the application.

I’m committing to at least 12 full day (6-hour) workshops throughout the year. Download info about my Workshop for Data Analysts.

T-o-t-a-l-l-y free?

Almost. I’m waiving the fee for my time and talent. You’ll have to cover the cost of my travel – and I book my travel. ✈️ If you’re selected, I’ll send you a flat fee charge that will cover my travel expenses. I don’t deal in reimbursements.

If you incur any charges for securing the workshop location, that’s on you, Babe.

Well, exactly how much will the travel cost?

Good question! It isn’t possible for me to calculate costs ahead of time. I won’t know the flat rate for any given workshop until I see where the applicant is located.

Generally speaking my travel to US-based clients is $2,500-$4,000, depending on where they are in the country, whether I’d have to rent a car, how many nights I’d have to stay, airline prices, etc. My international workshops run a bit higher due to airfare, extra hotel days, that sort of thing.

I will for sure communicate the exact flat rate to each of the winners when I notify them that they’ve won.

Can the workshop be virtual?

Nope. 😘 In-person only. These days, we need to gather.

Face-to-face. No AI-generated fake imagery. No staged Tik Toks. Real people, coming together, to solve real problems.

What if I only want a half day workshop?

No dice. In the Year of Free Workshops, I’m offering my flagship workshop. Details, including the typical schedule for the day, are located here.

Can I charge a registration fee to the audience and make money off of this opportunity?

You can, but I’ll judge what you’re using the money for, so be prepared to tell me your plan in the application.

Can we record the workshop?

Nope.

When are applications due?

Applications are due by June 30, 2025. ⏳

When will we know if we’ve been selected?

I’ll notify everyone, either way, by the end of July 2025. πŸ“…

If you’re selected, you’ll have 2 weeks to approve or decline the specific dates I’ll offer. All contracts will be in place by the end of August 2025.

All workshops will occur in 2026.

Are you serious? Is this even legal?

πŸ€“ So legal, my lawyers drafted up a contract.

If selected, you’ll be required to sign a contract that allows me to use your company’s logo in my marketing. Once booked, there can be no changes to the date or general location. You’ll be billed for my travel (a flat fee) 4 months ahead of the workshop. There will be no refunds in the event you cancel the workshop.

If selected, you’ll have two weeks to review the draft contract.

Why are you doing this?

The world desperately needs great data visualization.

β˜‘οΈ You’ll need it to tell the story about the impact of your work.

β˜‘οΈ To secure more funding.

β˜‘οΈ To inform your team and your leadership so you can make strategic decisions.

β˜‘οΈ To fulfill your mission and improve the quality of life for humanity.

And the absolute circus at the federal level has and is still jeopardizing access to funding, increasing uncertainty and stressing the us f out.

So let’s do some good in the world. I’ll help you tell clearer data stories and you’ll use what you learn to improve society.

Also, I know I produce high quality data visualization content and y’all know it too because you’ve kept me very busy, booked, and unbothered over the years. So much so that I’m officially work-optional. And this is what I’m opting to do with my time. Sure I could charge my regular rates – but there’s such a thing as “enough.” We can choose a way of being that is counter to the money-hungry hoarders currently running our federal government. ✌🏼

Will you also schedule paid workshops in 2026?

Yes πŸ˜… of course. I’ll certainly have room in my schedule to book paid versions of this workshop and my other workshops throughout the year. My schedule books about 6 months in advance.

Use the contact form on the Workshops page to start a conversation about scheduling a paid workshop. Do not complete a Year of Free Workshops application.

Yay!

Yay! I can’t wait to hear from you. Apply here.

Love,
Stephanie

My legal team has advised that this Year of Free Workshops could be viewed as a contest, which means I need to share this language with you:
No purchase necessary. Organizations only. Ends June 30, 2025. Travel costs not included. Void where prohibited.
